The educational and medical journey of Dr. Gail Weingast began in 1969, when she decided to attend Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts, at Jackson College, where she did the work necessary to earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. Obviously, the thought to become a doctor wasn’t there at the very beginning, but something must have clicked soon after, since she soon moved on to the Boston University School of Medicine, where she officially earned the right to call herself Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976.
Of course, being a doctor means gaining a lot more education. Following medical school, she headed to Denver, Colorado, Under the auspices of Colorado General Hospital, Dr. Gail Weingast did a pediatrics internship from 1976-1977, then she completed a residency in pediatrics over the next two years. She completed a residency in radiology between 1980 and 1983 and a fellowship in the field of ultrasound in 1983. She completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist from in 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, which was also located in Denver.
Dr. Gail Weingast then worked at several other hospitals, mostly in Colorado, but also in New York, before she landed in Connecticut and settled into her current position. These days, Dr. Gail Weingast is best known as a highly regarded radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she is the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging. She has been there for more than 20 years and she has used her 40 years of education and experience to guide her department into its current position as a premiere medical facility.
