When you look at her overall record, it is clear that Gail Weingast didn’t always know she would end up becoming a doctor. In fact, when you look at how she started her education, it certainly doesn’t seem to have been her first choice. In 1969, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from Tufts University in Massachusetts. It was only a bit later that she decided to study medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine. That happened in 1976 and it’s when she earned the right to be called Dr. Gail Weingast, MD. From that point on, a lot changed. After medical school, Dr. Weingast did a pediatrics internship from 1976-1977 at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, followed by the completion of a residency program in pediatrics over the next two years. She completed a residency in the field of radiology between 1980 and 1983 as well as a fellowship in the field of ultrasound in 1983.
Dr. Gail Weingast then completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist from 1983 to 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver. In more than three decades since, Dr. Gail Weingast has practiced in a number of other hospitals throughout Colorado, as well as New York, until she finally settled into her current position as a highly regarded radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. She has been there more than two decades.
At Backus, Dr. Gail Weingast is their Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging. From that position, she has been able to guide her department into its current position as a premiere medical facility. Overall, with nearly four decades of knowledge and experience, while Dr. Gail Weingast’s career path wasn’t a straight line, every aspect of her educational and career journey has all been valuable and contributed to make her the fine doctor she is today.
